The School of Mining and Geomatics Engineering (SMGE) is one of the most historical schools at Hebei University of Engineering, that has been committed to promoting talents cultivation and scientific investigation in the field of Mining, Geomatics, Production Safety, and Emergency Management.

Our school has a strong teaching and researching faculty of more than 60 members, with more than 70% of them possess a Doctor's Degree. Over 20 faculties are recipients of national or provincial-level talent titles, including titles such as the Special Experts from the China Association for Science and Technology's Overseas Talent Program, the National Advanced Workers in the Coal Industry, National Advanced Worker of Coal Education, the Excellent Teachers of Hebei Province, and the Hundred outstanding Innovative Talents in Hebei Province's Colleges and Universities etc.

Our school takes talent cultivation as the foundation, steadfastly foster the mission of "building the school with high quality and developing it with unique characteristics". There are four teaching departments in our school, i.e., Mining Engineering, Surveying and Mapping Engineering, Safety Engineering, and Remote Sensing Science and Technology. The school is also equipped with various experimental centers, including the Mining Engineering Comprehensive Experiment Center (MECEC), the Safety Engineering Comprehensive Experiment Center (SECEC), Geospatial Information Center (GIC), Remote Sensing Comprehensive Experimental Center (RSCEC), and Mining Engineering Training Center (METC). We offer a master's degree in Mining Engineering, a self-established master's program in Mining Spatial Information Engineering, and three engineering professional degree programs in Resources and Environment (Mining engineering, Surveying and Mapping Engineering, and Safety Engineering). Currently, there are more than 1,200 full-time undergraduate students and more than 100 full-time postgraduate students on campus.

Aiming development goals, our school has made unremitting efforts in specialty development. We offer a range of specialty and/or focal majors that combine theory and practical skills. These fields consist of national and provincial outstanding characteristic specialties (Mining Engineering), national first-class undergraduate specialties (Surveying and Mapping Engineering), and 3 first-class undergraduate specialties in Hebei Province (Mining Engineering, Safety Engineering, Remote Sensing Science and Technology). Additionally, Mining Engineering is recognized as a provincial comprehensive reform experimental specialty. The Surveying and Mapping Engineering and Mining Engineering have received professional accreditation from the Ministry of Education. The Mining Engineering Master's Program is the provincial pilot for comprehensive reform in professional degree graduate education. The graduate training practice base developed in collaboration with Jizhong Energy Group Co., Ltd. has been recognized as provincial exemplary level, and the Hebei Provincial Graduate Workstation has been jointly built with Jizhong Energy Fengfeng Group Co., Ltd.

Our school has consistently embraced the principle of "Revitalization and development depending on science and technology" and has implemented various measures to enhance its scientific influence in research. It has pioneered the establishment of 4 provincial-level research centers, such as the Hebei Coal Mine Construction Technology Innovation Center, and 8 municipal-level research centers, including the Handan Key Laboratory of Natural Resources Spatial Information. In recent years, our school has successively undertaken over 50 vertical projects, including the sub-projects of the National Key R&D Plan, the National Natural Science Foundation, and the Hebei Natural Science Foundation, as well as received more than 300 commissioned projects from enterprises and institutions. We received 8 provincial/ministerial awards, such as the Provincial Government Science and Technology Awards and the China Invention Association Invention and Entrepreneurship Awards, and more than 30 other various scientific and technological awards. Our faculties published more than 230 papers in SCI/EI journals, released 14 monographs or edited volumes, and has been authorized 51 national invention patents, with five of these patents have been successfully converted and applied in practical projects. Our institute has forged excellent cooperation partnerships with over 10 globally famous universities, including the University of Alaska, Eastern Michigan University, and the University of New South Wales, and has dispatched more than 10 students abroad for short-term studies.

Our school adheres to the construction of academic atmosphere as the leading factor and takes it as its own responsibility to cultivate talents with high quality and obvious engineering characteristics. In recent years, students from our school have achieved excellent achievements multiple times in competitions such as the "Challenge Cup" National Competition and the College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Design Competition, and have won more than 40 awards in various national-level discipline competitions. The admission rate of postgraduate students in our school has steadily ranked among the top in Hebei University of Engineering, and the employment rate of graduates has reached over 96%. Almost 8,000 excellent graduates are contributing to various industries, such as production, management, scientific research and education, and have become the backbone of the growth of enterprises and institutions.
